Sometimes also called the "Strawberry Apisto," these small dwarf cichlids are closely related to the Apistogramma bitaeniata. Their scientific name, eremnopyge, is in reference to a small black diamond visible on the caudal peduncle. These tend to be smaller, very shy and non-aggressive Apistogrammas.
These fish mix well with other small, peaceful fish. Tankmates should not be overly active, as these Apistos are very retiring. Pencilfish, slow tetras, hatchets, and small loricarids are all good tankmates.
